About Me...

I'm Sophie, a solution focused clinical hypnotherapist and EFT practitioner

In my combined careers as both hypnotherapist and police officer, I have twenty years of experience of listening, holding space for people, and dealing with trauma. Working with adults and children of varying ages, both online and in-person. Ultimately, I care and want to make a difference to people's lives

It is my opinion that the world is a better place when people are empowered. When people BELIEVE they are worthy and capable of more.

I keep it real, conversational and hopefully relaxing! It is a challenge to hardwire change if we are dysregulated or stuck in fight flight freeze so I also like to use EFT as a grounding technique in my sessions to regulate and calm.

Being able to facilitate and bear witness to people’s growth and transformation is something I will never take for granted. I genuinely believe everyone can make meaningful changes to their lives and the way they think. Hypnotherapy can gently help encourage and inspire people to access the answers that exist within them already.

My Police Career

For the first two years I was police staff, a call handler for what is now 101 and 999. I started my career as an officer in uniform, on response, where I stayed for 8 years, emergency calls, frontline, the essence of policing. From there I joined the missing person team, which also encompassed working with exploited young people and a lot of safeguarding. After 5 years there I took a seconded post to work as the violence against women and girls co-ordinator, a huge and significant role which widened my eyes to whole a host of issues, inequality and societal failings. The result of working in this field left me with a fire in my belly and led me on to a promotion path.  I wanted to be the change I wanted and needed to see. Promoted to sergeant, I ran a team, managed a huge amount of risk daily, sat various promotion processes, as well as supporting bereaved and grieving families as family liaison officer. I worked on a multi-agency level in my youth policing roles, and before concluding my career in policing, worked with schools delivering inputs and the youth justice service deciding out of court diversion processes for young people. There were various side quests I embarked on during my career, including a mentoring programme for young people, specialist training in interviewing children and vulnerable adults, sitting on equality, diversity and inclusivity boards, and the women in policing group, evolve. It was one of the responsibilities that was given to me by evolve that caused me to question my career – “inspiring confidence in future female leadership”. It lit me up, gave me enthusiasm, the thought of empowering other women, but, my day job always top trumped. There were a variety of things that acted as nails in the coffin of my policing career, ultimately, we were no longer aligned, and the overall disenchantment led me to pursue another path.

I was a police officer for many years before changing careers, the call to serve has always been in me. A lot of people say it's a big career change but it's not really, you see, its all people…and I am passionate about people. Policing isn’t all law enforcement and blue lights, there are some real nurturing and supportive roles, which are the ones I naturally fell in to…

I shall try and give a whistlestop tour of my 18 years’ service because I find a lot of people are usually intrigued and it also evidences I had a very demanding work life in a big organisation whilst balancing motherhood and the mental load…I get it…

My Journey...

My Empowerment Mission

In 2024, I embarked on a mission to empower people, in my own clothes (no more uniforms!) and required a way of doing that…so I enrolled with Brighton CPHT training in September 2024, qualifying in July 2025 with over 200 client hours completed. Hypnotherapy provides a trusted modality to facilitate change, in a positive and forward-looking way.

I am a member of both the Association for solution focused hypnotherapists (ASFH) and the National Council of Hypnotherapists (NCH) because the police officer in me loves an accreditation, accountability and legitimacy!

In November 2025 I completed training in Emotional Freedom Tapping, a wonderful modality that compliments hypnotherapy and rounds the services I am able to offer. After experiencing the profound impacts of EFT personally, I was compelled to train in this area too. I continue to be intuitive with my continued professional development and the further training that I do. I always strive to offer my clients the best.

Listen to my interview with the incredible Practicing Human

"Sophie - about her 16 year career in the Police force and her move to being a practitioner of hypnosis and EFT. Expect a whistle stop tour of light and bright and seriously deep with Meet the Fockers, Tarot cards and Woo Woo dotted in here and there!"

I feel hugely privileged to be trusted by people with often the most vulnerable parts of themselves.

My clients tell me they look forward to seeing me so it’s clearly a pleasant and enjoyable experience! They choose me for my relatability, my down-to-earth approach and authenticity. When you love what you do it, it shows and that translates. There is neuroscience behind that!

"I recently went to see Sophie for some hypnotherapy for  my fear of public speaking . Sophie herself is extremely good at making you  feel safe and open  about your reason for being there. I found that being able to have a relaxed and honest conversation was freeing in itself but the trance that Sophie would run through with me each week was invaluable,  like a massage for my brain . I found after each session that I was calm and focussed  for the week ahead.

When I had to do my first presentation  I felt much more in control and less anxious  about it."

My Location...

I am very proud of the beautiful view and unique location of the practice. During the wetter, winter months the view transforms… The water rises, showcasing the incredible water meadows of Henfield. It provides a unique, therapeutic backdrop and enhances a natural feeling of peace and tranquillity, who doesn’t want that?!

And so, The Water Meadow Practice was born…
